Lena Mary Lacy, 87, went to be with her Lord on the evening of June 3, 2013, with her family and friends by her side. Lena Mary was born on May 4, 1926, in Beeville, Texas, to Dr. Linzie Newton Connally, DDS and Lena May Hodges Connally. She was born on the same lot as her current home, to which she returned after many years of residing in Dallas. Lena Mary attended school in Beeville and graduated from A. C. Jones High School in 1943. She then she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and graduated in 1947. While at SMU, she was the Delta Gamma President. One year after graduating from SMU on September 3rd, 1948 she married her sweetheart, Clyde Francis Lacy. Lena Mary was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, a loyal friend, and wonderful role model to all. She was considerate, kind and unselfish. She was a faithful member of her local church, worked in numerous service organizations, and participated in many clubs and charities. She leaves a wonderful legacy of caring and serving others, and she positively impacted countless lives. Before starting her family, Lena Mary taught full-time in Garland public schools and later was a substitute teacher in Dallas ISD for many years before her retirement in 1980. She was an active member of The First United Methodist Churches in Garland, Dallas, and Beevile. She was a member of the FUMC choir, the Nurture Committee, Wednesday Luncheon Group and United Methodist Women. Lena Mary was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, an honorary member of the Beeville Art Association for work at the Berclair Mansion, Beeville Concert Association, Treasurer and Memorial Chairman of the American Cancer Society, Adult Literacy Volunteer, and a member of the following organizations: Rosetta Club, Birthday Club, Home Arts Club, Beeville Concert Association, and Do Nothin' Dinner Club. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Linzie Newton and Lena May Connally; and a brother, Robert Linzie Connally. Those left to cherish and share her memories are her husband, Clyde Francis Lacy of Beeville; children, Dr. Alan Connally Lacy and his wife Patti of Normal, Illinois, Clark Francis Lacy and his wife Ellen, of Lander, Wyoming; Mark Edward Lacy and his wife Andrea of McAllen, Texas; grandchildren, Cameron Lacy Ortega and her husband, Mike, Benjamin Edward Lacy, Sarah Lacy Foss and her husband, Josh, and Thomas Alan Lacy; nieces and nephews, Robert Linzie Connally, William Dupre Connally and his wife, Leigh Ann, Mary Connally Hamm and her husband, Tommy. Other relatives include her cousin, Marilee Calhoun Deer, and sister-in-law, Beverly Dupre Connally. The visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013, from 6-8p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. The celebration of life service for Lena Mary is on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church of Beeville. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery will be at 7 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Kirkby Townsend, Tom Beasley, Mickey Lofton, Dennis DeWitt, Alex Kibler, Benjamin Lacy, Thomas Lacy, Jeff Latcham, Chip Latcham, Mark Parsons, and Ed McKay. Lena Mary loved the town of Beeville. Her family would like to thank the countless folks that befriended Lena Mary over the years and treated her like kin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, South Texas Children's Home, Glenwood Cemetery, Beeville Art Guild, or a charity of the donor's choice.
