Leonard Dohlen Iii

Leonard H. Von Dohlen III, 75, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. He was born to Leonard H. and Elizabeth O'Connell Von Dohlen in Palestine, on March 24, 1934. A long time resident of Goliad, he married Gay Aoueille on Jan. 27, 1957. He founded Von Dohlen Motor Company in Goliad in 1964. He also served on the Advisory Boards of Texas State Technical Institute and the Bee County College. He was an avid rancher, an active community leader and economic developer, owner of La Bahia Downs for over 30 years, and president of the Racing Board of Texas. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad and also the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. Mr. Von Dohlen was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Von Dohlen; his mother and father-in-law, Bernard and Ida Aoueille; his daughter-in-law, Kim Von Dohlen and sister-in-law, Cherie Von Dohlen. Survivors include his wife Gay Von Dohlen; children, Lenny Von Dohlen, IV of Seattle, Wash., John David Von Dohlen of Goliad, Mary Gay Von Dohlen of Baton Rouge, La., and Catherine (David) Martin of San Antonio; grandchildren, Kristal Von Dohlen, Katy Von Dohlen, Hazel Montgomery, and Evan Martin; one great granddaughter; sister, Jane (Ben) Horny of San Antonio; brother Tim (Pat) Von Dohlen of Austin, and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin Wednesday, (today) at 9 a.m. with the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 with Father Ralph Baidoo officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Goliad. Pallbearers will be his nephews Tim Horny, Andy Horny, Jeff Horny, Tim Von Dohlen, II, Chris Von Dohlen, Patrick Von Dohlen, Dr. Bernard Aoueille, III, Lee Aoueille, and John Aoueille. Donations may be made to the Goliad Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
