Leonard Eugene "Beaver" Rider

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Leonard Eugene Rider, 81, known to his family and friends as Beaver, a resident of Beeville, Texas, on April 3, 2024.

Beaver's journey through life began in Davenport, Iowa, where he was born to Norris and Mildred Rider on December 24, 1942. Beaver's early years were marked by his athletic abilities, leading him to graduate from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas, before attending New Mexico State University on a football scholarship. His spirit of adventure and dedication to his country led him to enlist in the Air Force, where he honorably served for one and a half years, embodying the values of courage and commitment.

Professionally, Beaver embarked on a career as a professional driver, a role that saw him navigating roads less traveled. His life was a journey not just of miles but of adventure.

Beaver was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Norris and Mildred Rider; his sister, Glenna, and her husband, Dorsie Page; and his brother, John Rider.

Beaver's legacy is carried on by his son, Ryan Rider, and his wife, Karan; his daughter, Reagann (Rider) Shulke and her husband, Adam; his cherished grandchildren, Jackson Rider, Cohen Gilchrist and Neely Gilchrist, who brought immense joy and pride to his life; brother, Tim Rider; sister, Beverly Durrance; and his former wife, Sharon Rider. Each of them holds memories of Beaver that will forever be etched in their hearts.

As we say goodbye to Leonard Eugene Rider, we celebrate the remarkable journey of a man who touched the lives of so many. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the love that binds us all.

Services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
