Elizabeth “Libby” Jones passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 73, after a determined battle with cancer that reflected the strength she carried throughout her life. Her daughter, Elizabeth Rachael Carr, was by her side when she passed; thus, closing a chapter defined by resilience and independence. Born the youngest child of the late WW Jones and Rachel McCarty Jones, Libby grew up between Beeville, Corpus Christi, and South Texas, where her roots instilled in her a bold, self-reliant spirit. She had a tremendous sense of adventure which took her to places all over the world, and introduced her to incredible characters and talents that we still enjoy today.
Libby was preceded in death by her sisters, Susan Jones Miller and Lorine Jones Booth, and her parents, all of whom helped shape her steadfast nature. In a poignant loss, her older brother, AC “Dick” Jones, passed away just two days later, on March 9, 2025, leaving the family to mourn two souls in quick succession. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Rachael Carr, and her grandchildren, William and Gerry Jane who carry forward her strength and love of life. Her sister, Kathleen Jones Avery, remains, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and a circle of close friends, who valued her unique presence and sharp-witted humor.
Born in Corpus Christi, Libby was a commanding figure, who built her life with grit and determination. She wasn’t one for overt displays of warmth, preferring instead to earn respect through her straightforward approach and tireless work ethic. Those who knew her admired her tenacity, and she took pride in the independence she maintained, leaving a lasting impression on her community and family.
Libby lived life on her own terms, facing every challenge head-on until the very end. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Beeville Country Club on March 29th at 12 o’clock in the afternoon, where those who knew her can gather for lunch, music and memories. Please come dressed in your Guayaberas and Summer Clothes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute at 700 University Boulevard MSC 218, Kingsville, Texas 78363, or online at https://www.ckwri.tamuk.edu/giving.
Libby left this world as she moved through it — strong, unforgettable, and true to herself.
