Lloyd “David” Coffey Sr., affectionately known as Paw Paw and Big Chief, went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2024. He was born April 10,1945, in Farmington, New Mexico, to L.D. Coffey and Eunice (Jacobs) Coffey. On February 19, 1965, David married the love of his life, Linda (Fitzgerald) Coffey, in Beeville Texas. Together they built a family full of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
David started his career at a young age in the Oil & Gas Industry, where he worked hard and built a reputation for his dedication and strong work ethic. He later became a salesman and truck driver for H&T Explosives where he proudly hauled dynamite with the CB handle “Nervous Wreck.” He was a man of many talents and passions. David was BBQ Pit Master who owned and operated two successful barbecue restaurants: DJ’s BBQ in George West and later The Mesquite Pit in Beeville, TX. He was known not just for his food but for his delicious barbecue sauce. He retired from the workforce after ending his career as a third-party contractor for AT&T. Above all, David’s family was the most important part of his life. He embraced his role as Pawpaw with immense love and pride, always putting his loved ones first. His unwavering dedication, kind heart, and larger-than-life personality will forever be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him. David leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, hard work, and family devotion. He will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents, L.D. Coffey and Eunice J. Coffey; his brother, William Henry Coffey; in-laws, Leroy Fitzgerald and Marie Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Doris Cochran; and his great-great-grandson, Heath Lane Gisler.
David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Coffey; his children, Lisa Coffey, Laura Parker, Lloyd David Coffey Jr. and Lynn (Stephen) Catchings; his sister, Paulette (Bob) Humphrey; and sisters-in-law, Gail (John) Sample and Dina Berry. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Heather (Cody) Musick, Brittany Simmons, Myles (Emily) Parker, Lonnie (Jeff) Grover, Dylan Coffey, Amanda (Garrett) Bond, Dalton (Stormie) Parker, Ethan Zissa, Wyatt Catchings and Lloyd David “Dave” Coffey III; great-grandchildren. Kimora Dupree, Ethan Grover, Gavina Musick, Walker Parker, Steelie Parker, Pearl Parker and Emma Bond; along with several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, Texas.
The funeral service will be conducted there at 10 a.m. Friday, December 20, with Pastor Jack Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park off Hwy. 59.
Pallbearers will be Myles Parker, Lonnie Grover, Dylan Coffey, Dalton Parker, Wyatt Catchings and Lloyd David Coffey III.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cody Musick, Garrett Bond, Stephen Catchings, Joseph Sample, Bobby Humphrey, Bryan Neal and William “Willy” Coffey.
Family and friends are invited to a special reception at the Faith Lutheran Church fellowship hall following the graveside service.
