Loren Council

Loren C. Council, 95, passed away on May 31, 2012. He was born in Center Point, TX, on May 21, 1917. He was the youngest of four children born to Joseph H. and Ada (Crenshaw) Council. He graduated from Mercedes High School, and he was very proud that he never missed a day of school. He married Nona Trois Glasson on November 13, 1938. They lived in Taft, TX, and he was the manager of the Taft Mercantile Grocery Store. He served in World War II as a Sea Bee in the Navy. After the war, he came back to Taft to the Taft Mercantile. He later worked as a salesman for the Jack Bonner Company in Corpus Christi. In 1949, he moved to Beeville, TX, and went to work for Paul Anderson Company out of San Antonio. He worked for them and The Council Company for 49 years. He loved his job very much, and many of his customers became his friends. Loren's second love was golf. He directed many golf tournaments and was a fixture at the Beeville Country Club. Loren is preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, and his second wife, Juanita Shroyer Council. Loren is survived by his daughter, Camilla and son-in-law, Tom Palmer of Beeville; son, Jody and daughter-in-law, Sandy Council of Goliad; grandchildren, Randy (Denise) Palmer, Lori Jo (Dennis) Walker, Josh Council, Jeff (Joni) Council, Betsy (Eric) Bartee, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Beeville, TX. Services were held at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. Immediately following the service, there was a reception at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish in honor of Loren's love of the game of golf may make memorial contributions to the Loren Council Memorial Golfer's Scholarship Fund, Barnhart Scholarship Program, 1902 N.
