Louis "Sonny" Calvin Steenken, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 14, 2015 in Beeville Texas. Sonny was born on February 5, 1931 to Louis and Allie (Sells) Steenken in the Denhawken community in Wilson County. After graduating from Stockdale High School in 1949, he worked briefly in San Antonio prior to starting his career with Southwestern Bell. Sonny retired from Bell in 1993 after 43 years of service. His career with Southwestern Bell included construction for a brief time in Brownsville, installation and maintenance of telephone poles and lines throughout Bee and surrounding counties, sale and installation of phone lines in homes and businesses. Later in his career, he did troubleshooting and cable system repair, corrosion technology and restoration service in South Texas after hurricane incidents. Sonny ended his career with Southwestern Bell in the Special Services division installing and maintaining fiber optic systems in the Beeville, Victoria and Sinton areas. After his retirement, Louis and Linny travelled with Texas Baptist Men's Church building ministry constructing churches across Texas and in Idaho. He also enjoyed working at his farm in Denhawken, Texas and visiting with family. Louis married Linny Dixon on December 16, 1955. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, three daughters, Tammy Carter (Greg) of Longview, Texas, Karen Russell (Robert) of Fort Worth Texas, and Stacy Steenken (Mitsie) of San Marcos, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren, William Carter of Baytown, Austin Carter of College Station, and Kendall and Christopher Russell of Fort Worth. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, C.W. Steenken and an infant daughter, Joy Elaine. Family visitation will be at Galloway Funeral Home on Friday, November 20 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Beeville at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 21. A graveside service will be held at the Stockdale Cemetery in Stockdale Texas at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Greg, William and Austin Carter, Robert and Christopher Russell, Domingo Salinas and Erwin Massengale. Honorary pallbearers are Garland Neal, Joe De Leon, and Domingo (Junior) Salinas. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Texas Baptist Men's Building Ministry to the attention of Ron Beard at: Texas Baptist Men 5351 Cantron Drive Dallas, Texas 75227.
