Malcom Dugger "Stretch" Evans left very peacefully among friends and family on November 10, 2012. He was born on November 13, 1921, in Hazlehurst, Georgia. He was the last surviving child of Jeff Davis County Sheriff D.L. Evans and Ruby Dugger Evans. He graduated from University of Georgia. Malcom served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Marine Air Corps during World War II and the Korean War, during which he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and five Air Medals. Following the wars, he was assigned as a flight instructor at Chase Field, where he met his bride, Jennie Elizabeth Davis. He retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service. Malcom Evans was a well-known rancher in Bee County and a lifetime member and former director of Beefmaster Breeders Universal, who named him the "Member of the Decade" for the years 1990 - 1999. He was also a lifetime Booster Club member for the Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association. Malcom was married to Jennie Elizabeth Evans for fifty-seven years. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Gene Evans, Norma Evans Oates, Russell Evans, Van Evans Sundy, D.L. Evans Jr., Audrey Evans Cooper and Edith Evans. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert Berry Evans and George Kline Evans; grandson, Ryan Malcom Evans; and three granddaughters, Taylor Paige Evans, Bonnie Elizabeth Evans and Jennie Marie Evans; and many nephews and nieces. A viewing is planned at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville on Thursday, November 15, at 5 p.m. with a service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the South Texas Children's' Home, for which Malcom had been an avid supporter for many years.
