Marcela G. Gonzalez, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on July 8th, 2014, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 94. She was born on a ranch by George West, Texas, on January 31, 1920, to parents Josefa and Severo Guzman. She married David Gonzalez in Beeville, Texas, and had residency in the Rio Grande Valley where David was employed with the railroad. After raising her family in Alice, Texas, she moved to La Porte, Texas, and later to San Antonio, Texas. She was a housewife most of her life, and was active with the senior citizen groups in La Porte and San Antonio. She was extremely proud of her family and her independence. Those who knew her well remember fondly her love of dancing. She will be sadly missed, but is rejoicing in her presence with God and loved ones. Marcela is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Sostenes Constante and David Gonzalez; a son, Jesus (Jesse) Constante; a daughter-in-law, Linda Constante; a granddaughter, Melissa Pena; and four sisters, Paulita Guzman, Elvira (Juan) Vasquez; Sulema (Ray) Ortiz; and Margarita (Catarino) Romero. She is survived by two daughters, Josie (Ray) Smithwick of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Isela Pena of San Antonio, Texas; one son, David (Maria Elena) Gonzalez, Jr. of La Porte, Texas; two sisters, Lillie (Clemente) Ramon of Beeville, Texas, and Tomasita Chavez of Beeville, Texas; eleven grandchildren: Liet. Col, USMC Jesse (Kristine) Constante; Benjamin (Jennifer) Constante, MD; Reverend Michael (Rebecca) Constante; Tracie (John) Rodriguez, Ph.D; Randy (Priscilla) Smithwick; Tami (Ryan) Carter; Michael (Stacie) Gonzalez; Lisa Gonzalez; Marisela Pena; Marisa Pena; Ernesto Pena, Jr.; and 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home from 5p.m.-9p.m. with a prayer service at 7p.m. Visitation will continue on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the same location. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 9 a.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home with interment to follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
