Maria L. (Chabera) Gutierrez

Maria Leonicia Gamez (Chabera) Gutierrez, 90, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at her home in Three Rivers, Texas on February 14, 2025, lovingly surrounded by her family.

Maria was born August 9, 1934, in Three Rivers to Pedro and Jesusa (Gamez) Chabera. She married Pablo Gutierrez in Three Rivers and was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The sound of music and dancing while savoring delicious food brought Maria much joy. She enjoyed anything and everything but loved her family and friends to earth’s end as they were her greatest pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Jesusa Chabera; siblings, Oscar Chabera, Alonzo Chabera and Anita (Chabera) Lopez; a son, Alonzo Briseno; a daughter, Velma Cardenas; and grandchildren, Joe Nino Hernandez, Micala Hernandez De Leon and Juan Angel Briseno.

Left behind to cherish fond memories include her beloved husband of 42 years, Pablo Gutierrez; as well as her children, Eddie (Katarina) Chabera, Timoteo Briseno Jr., Mary Julia (Jerry) Caballero and Mary Lupita (Gilberto) De La Rosa; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 o’clock that morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Ryszard Zielinski officiating.

Burial will follow in the Three Rivers Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Larry Hatten, Wesley Davidson, James Contreras, Lonnie Reyes, Azalea Reyes and Ilias Rodriguez.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Dobie, Jeremy Schnur, Ryan Briseno and Rex De Leon.
