Maria Zuniga

Maria “Moie” Zuniga, 67, of George West, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on August 26, 2021.

Maria Zuniga was born in George West, Texas, on January 15, 1954. She married Antonio “Poie” Zuniga on March 9, 1969. They were married 52 years. Maria gave her life to Christ in 1981 and was an active member of the Church of Christ for more than 40 years. If she didn’t see you at church, she was inviting you to church which sometimes included a wake-up phone call early Sunday morning. She had many talents, spiritual gifts and a heart of gold.

Maria was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her children were her pride, and her grandchildren brought her nothing but joy. Her legacy was leading her children to the Lord and generations to follow. Maria lived a simple life; you could find her most days sitting outside her house with her Bible in one hand and her phone in the other. You could always expect a phone call for your birthday, a warm embrace with every hello, and a beautiful smile with every wave goodbye. Maria never met a stranger, and if you were introduced into the family, you were adopted with loving arms and were never forgotten.

Maria was a devout Christian woman, a prayer warrior, and did all things to glorify God. Her life motto was found in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Colunga and Nina (Reyna) Colunga; brothers, Juan Colunga and Rosendo Colunga; sister, Florinda Carvajal; and grandson, Antonio “Trey” Zuniga III.

She is survived by her loving husband, Antonio Zuniga; daughter, Rose and husband Larry Millermon of George West; son, Juan and wife Becky Zuniga of George West; son Tony and Paula Zuniga of Three Rivers; daughter, Ruby and husband Greg Mendoza of George West; daughter, Priscilla and husband Baseem Gregg of San Antonio; daughter, Krystal and husband Orlando Mendoza of Aransas Pass; daughter Laury Brown of Corpus Christi; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held for Maria at the Live Oak County Park, 266 Airport Road, Sunday, September 5, at 6 p.m.

The family would like to thank the community for all the prayers, love and support given at this difficult time.
