Mary Elizabeth Welder Knight passed away on October 17, 2013 in New Braunfels Texas with her daughter-in-law Katie by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Goree Knight and her sons James Leland, David and Thomas Chris Knight. She is survived by her son Michael John Knight (Katie), her granddaughter Jenny Knight, brother Raymond James Welder, Jr.(Heather) , sisters Louise Welder Hall and Josephine Welder Miller all of Beeville. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews also survive their aunt. Her nephews and nieces are her honorary pallbearers. Mary Elizabeth was born on October 27, 1930 to Mary Amelia McCurdy Welder and Raymond James Welder in Beeville, Texas. She completed elementary and high schools in Beeville, attended A and I College, Kingsville and received her degree from the University of Texas in Austin. She married Jack G. Knight on June 26, 1954. "Tia" as she was known to her family could always be counted on for a good story often about family history but also covering a wide range of subjects that interested her. She would drive to visit nieces and nephews to enthusiastically join in their school projects and hobbies and could always be counted on to give those projects an extra oomph. Her view of family encompassed many that were not directly related to her but were always referred to as her adopted nephew or niece. She was comfortable visiting friends in either English or Spanish and loved to tell us of her junking finds. She enjoyed reading and wrote down many of her stories. Her high school classmates still talk about her help on their high school theme assignments. In recent years Mary Elizabeth moved to New Braunfels into her "little rock house" and enjoyed her new territory immensely. She made new friends, sent letters to the editor about her ideas for the town and participated in local church and county fair events. She was extremely fond of Avenell Le Mar and Lauren Smith who have cared for her for the past year. The family is grateful to Avenell and Lauren Smith who treated our sister and mother as if she were their own family.
