Mary Wroten

Mary Wroten passed on September 28, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born September 1, 1921, in Stockdale, Texas to Ione Tyler and August Franke Jr. Her father died when she was 18 months old and her mother married A.T. (Bob) Hardin in 1942. Mary graduated from Stockdale High School in 1939. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos. There she met Tommy Wroten, and they married October 10, 1942. Tommy graduated from S.W.T.S.T.C., and he was drafted into the Army Air Force and went overseas for 28 months to fight in WWII. Mary taught school in Denhawken in Wilson County while Tommy was away. When he returned home from WWII, he attended U.T. Austin and earned his pharmacy degree. Mary and Tommy moved to Beeville and began working for Paul and Elizabeth Schulz at Schulz Pharmacy on March 1, 1948. Mary was owner and gift buyer for Schulz & Wroten Pharmacy, Inc. and began attending The Dallas Market with Elizabeth Schulz in the 1950's and continued up until now. Mary was a member of many social and civic clubs and always took pride in attending these functions with all her friends. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church of Beeville since 1948 and served on many committees including Grounds and Building Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tommy Wroten, stepfather, A.T. "Bob" Hardin, sister and brother-in-law, Willette and Wayne Reams and grandson, Baby Boy Newsom. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Wroten Newsom and husband Bill, Judy Wroten Cline and husband Larry; four grandchildren, William Wroten Newsom, Amy Elizabeth Newsom, Christopher Joseph Cline and wife Jillian and Thomas Matthew Cline; one great-granddaughter, Addisyn Jayde Cline; niece, Kay and husband Lee Lansford and great-nephew, Travis Lansford; first cousin, Anne Tyler Fleming of Dallas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Wroten of Baton Rouge, LA, Gloria Wroten of New Orleans, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in Beeville. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Beeville with Rev. Greg Traylor officiating. Interment will follow at Stockdale Cemetery in Stockdale, Texas, at 6 p.m. Pallbearers will be Matt Cline, William Newsom, Travis Lansford, Amy Newsom, Chris Cline, Lee Lansford, Gary Jones and Jillian Cline. Honorary pallbearers will be Sheila Webb, Gerald Salazar, Lee Arredondo, Patsy Salazar, Arabella Ochoa, Nelda Govella, Vicki Weeks and Domingo Garcia.
