Mattie Lue McNeill

Mattie Lue (Sewell) McNeill, of Three Rivers, Texas, born August 18, 1930, in Smackover, Arkansas, passed away March 24, 2025, in George West, Texas, at the remarkable age of 94.

The daughter of Arlis Henry Sewell and Hazel Irene (Pinkerton) Sewell, Mattie graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1947 and went on to build a successful career as the owner of Carrizo Answering Service, where she dedicated herself to serving her community. On August 18, 1949, she married Thermon McNeill in Three Rivers, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, participated in the Eastern Star and was the proud pet parent of her precious Bella, who was a constant source of companionship and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Arlis Sewell, as well as her devoted husband, Thermon McNeill; a daughter, Brenda McNeill; two grandsons, Michael Taylor and Todd Havrda; three brothers, Jack Sewell, Arlis Sewell Jr. and Jimmy Sewell; and two sisters, Colleen Dover and Betty Snider.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kathy (Dennis) Havrda and Jennifer Taylor. LuLu, as she was lovingly known by her grandchildren, was the cherished grandmother to Tanya (Billy) Whitehead, Craig (Stacy) Havrda, Dawn (Mike) Reiner, Shelley Liska, Betty (Billy) Mitchell, Christy (Roger) Pruitt and Robert Taylor; as well as 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers followed by a celebration to honor her life from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Rev. Jesse Hammonds will officiate.

Interment of cremains will be private.
