Mavis Barker

Mavis Eileen (Gordon) Barker, 92, of Beeville, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Ms. Barker was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Tyrone, Oklahoma to Oss Newman Gordon and Julia Ann (Kimble) Gordon. She was a retired nurse's aide and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oss and Julia Gordon; two sisters, Joyce Roman and Madeleine Wardwell; two sons, Richard Priest and Ralph Priest; and a grandson, Alan Chambliss. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Eileen Chambliss; four grandchildren, Teresa, Amber, Misty and Eddie Chambliss; a sister, Naida Davis; a brother, Autry (Penny) Gordon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted there at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Greg Traylor officiating. Special selections will include "In the Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross," sung by her sister, Naida Davis, with Mary Ellen Thoms as organist. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Cashen, Autry Gordon, Tim Rider and Jay Davis.
