Merry Carol Schmidt Beck, 54, passed away on December 27, 2013 in Beeville, Texas. She was born on October 4, 1959 in Karnes City to Monroe and Elline Fenner Schmidt. She will be dearly missed. She married Robert Beck on August 25, 1979 in Kenedy, Texas. They spent most of their lives living in Beeville. Merry began working in the Bee County tax office shortly before she married and was soon promoted to Chief Deputy Tax Collector. Though she already had a full-time job, she devoted her nights to helping her husband and his brother start their own company by doing their bookkeeping. Merry left the tax office to work full-time at the company she was fundamental in building with her husband - Beck Bros Inc., where she was not only his partner in life and love, but business as well as a co-owner. Merry was a member of the Business and Professional Women's club, Mother's Club, Junior Service League, Rosetta, Women's Investment Network club, and spent much of her time volunteering for various causes throughout her community. She also spent time sharing her passion for literature by reading to children at FMC Elementary, which brought her the most joy of all. Merry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Beeville. She devoted her life to loving her Lord and her family and always shared a smile with everyone she met. Merry was preceded in death by her father, Monroe Schmidt and brother, Carey Schmidt. Merry is survived by her beloved husband, best friend and confidant of 34 years, Robert Beck; children, Keleigh Beck-Mertens and husband Russell of Houston, Tres Beck and wife Toni of Beeville; grandchildren, Piper Beck, Coki Beck, Jackson Mertens; mother, Elline Fenner of Kenedy; brother, Terry Schmidt of Kenedy; sisters, Cherry Pargmann of Pettus, Laurey Wishert of Kenedy; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family wishes to thank the countless caregivers who helped Merry, which includes Dr. Karole Beasley, Legacy Home Health Care. They would also like to thank the countless doctors and staff members of M.D. Anderson, especially her dear doctor, Dr. Thomas Burke, whom worked tirelessly to help Merry throughout her struggle with this disease. The family also wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations in Merry's name be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Pallbearers will be Ryan Beck, Trevor Beck, Carl Schmidt, Ronnie Beck, Kolin Schmidt, and Michael Wishert. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Beeville at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
