Mildred Norma (Schmidt) Jostes, 87, of Beeville, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Mildred was born on November 1, 1931, to E.A. and Lillian (Merseburger) Schmidt in Shiner, Texas; later moving to the Mathis area where she grew up on the family farm. She attended Southwest Texas University studying for a degree in education. On May 14, 1960, she married the love of her life, Norman Lamar Jostes, in Mathis, Texas. They resided in the Beeville area for 57 years.
Mildred worked for the San Patricio County Clerk’s office, was a homemaker and also a pre-school teacher at the First United Methodist Church for more than 12 years. She enjoyed time with the Garden Club, Needlework Group, United Methodist Women and Daughters of the Republic of Texas where she served for a time as local chapter president. She also served in lay positions at FUMC. Along with Norman, she was involved in the Grand Lodge Sons of Hermann. In later years, they enjoyed time with the Do Nothing Club and Game Night Group. Mildred recently moved to Lewisville, Texas, to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, E.A. and Lillian Schmidt; her husband, Norman Lamar Jostes, having been married to Norman for 57 years. She is survived by two sons, Lamar (Heidi) Jostes of Plano, Texas and Scott (Shannon) Jostes of Flower Mound, Texas; six grandchildren, Sean, Chance, Erin, Sailor, Luke, Lillyan; four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Hayes, Jaxon and Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Beeville.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Shiner City Cemetery in Shiner, Texas, with Pastor Dean Fleming officiating. Music will be provided by soloist, Caroline Heizer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Jostes, Scott Jostes, Sean Cochran, Chance Cochran, Erin Jostes, Sailor Jostes, Luke Jostes and Lillyan Jostes.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Beeville.
