Mitchell Charles “Silkie” Smith, 60, went home to our Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Mitchell was born in Beeville, Texas, on August 16, 1956, to Dodson Sinclair and Cleo (Nation) Smith. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1976, and on April 22, 1978, married the love of his life, Yolanda Arrisola. He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and retired from the City of Beeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kaleigh Salazar; brother, Dodson Smith, Jr.; and sister, Carolyn Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, Yolanda Smith; sons, Mitchell R. Smith (Jeraldine) of Beeville, Ozzie Smith (Ana) of Beeville and Trey Smith of Austin; daughter, Jennifer Salazar (Scott) of Beeville; grandchildren, Dru, Caleb and Ayden Salazar, Kalyssa Jordyn, Jaelyn, Devin and Damon Smith, Skylar Walker, Briley and David Villarreal and Brooklyn Smith; brothers, Archie Smith of Beeville and Clarence Smith of Beeville; sisters, Alice Farris of San Antonio, Essie Langley of Beeville and Christine Smith of Beeville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Father Richard Gonzales, pastor, and Rev. Eric R. Tarver officiating. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Robinson, Lionel Hodge, Nick Rivas, Jr., Louis Segovia, Buzzy Loeffler and Robert Doubrava, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren whom he cherished dearly and the City of Beeville employees.
