Monique Renee Winkel, 58, of Beeville passed away on August 18, 2024, in a local nursing home after an extended illness.
She was born on February 12, 1966, in Farmington, Michigan to James Walaskay and Nancy Reed. She grew up in the same area until graduating from high school and completing a year of college in Rexburg, Idaho. It was during those years in college that she fell in love with Jeffrey Winkel. They were married on May 15, 1985, in Dallas, Texas. They began their marriage in SW Kansas and later in Pleasanton, Texas while Jeff worked in the seismic field. They finally relocated to Katy, Texas.
In late December of 1989, they were blessed with a daughter, Emily Marie. This event brought joy to Monique as it was her lifelong ambition to have children. The family relocated to Kingsville, Texas in 1991. As Jeff was completing his education at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Monique decided to complete hers too. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and enjoyed drawing, painting, and sculpting. Her hobbies were reading, collecting ceramic dolls, and Family History.
Monique was a people person. Her personality garnered many friendships throughout her life. She made friends with people all over the world just by reaching out, and later meeting them in person. Anyone was a prospective friend to her. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as a teacher and as a Genealogy consultant.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Walaskay; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Jane Winkel.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Jeff Winkel of Beeville; daughter, Emily Jackson; two grandsons, Rockwell and Whitfield of Boerne; mother, Nancy Burt of Michigan; siblings, Tonya Bernard and Josh Walaskay, both of Michigan and Rachel Noto and Nathan Burt, both of Colorado; and stepfather, Jim Burt of Colorado.
Visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, August 26 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, followed by the funeral service at 12 o’clock with Clint Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery.
