Nola Maxine Atkinson, 79, of Tilden, Texas, passed away on December 12, 2016.
She was born on March 29, 1937, to Grace Lene (West) and Curtis Jewel Curry in Whitsett, Texas. She married Samuel “Pat” Atkinson Jr. on June 19, 1955, in Whitsett. She was a member of Loma Alto Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards and Dominos and was an avid Spurs fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Darlene Curry.
She is survived by her children, Glenn (Marcia) Atkinson of New Mexico, Jeff (Lisa) Atkinson of Simmon City, and Sandra (Michael) Swaim of Tilden; sister, Janet Curry Guerra of Lagarto; six grandchildren, Dianne Riedel, Kayla Atkinson, Clay Atkinson, Bailey Swaim Meyer, Carly Swaim and Lindy Swaim; and two great-grandchildren, Natileigh Meyer and Brynleigh Meyer.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers with Rev. Adrienne Zermeno officiating. Music selections will include “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Mansion on the Hilltop,” and “When I Get Where I’m Going”. Interment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden. Pallbearers will be Wayne Swaim, Murray Swaim, Scotty McClaugherty, Richard Arredondo, Clay Atkinson, Travis Meyer, Brent Riedel, and Tippy Touchette.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Eliott, Jimmy Foster, Bugs Wood, Bobby Paul, Rick Sowell, Jr. Gonzales, Rick Murphy, and her oncologist for over 30 years, Dr. Joseph McCracken.
