Opal Kathleen Talkington LaCour, 85, of Bishop, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2016. Kathleen was born July 24, 1931, in Beeville, Texas to Grace Pullin and Vernon Talkington. After graduating from A. C. Jones High School in 1948, Kathleen met Walter "Cookie" LaCour and they married on June 17, 1950. They were married for 64 years before Cookie's death in 2014. Kathleen was a long-time resident of Bishop. She worked for many years managing the Food Services Department for Bishop Consolidated Independent School District. She was a member of the Bishop First Baptist Church, and a member for many years of the Nueces County Extension Club. Kathleen was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Kathleen loved holidays and family get-togethers. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for their arrival. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and spending time with friends. She was known for her affinity for chocolate, sweets, butterflies, and QVC. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter "Cookie" LaCour; and siblings, Vernon Talkington, Jr. and Margaret Dietz. She leaves behind her daughter, Mary Grace (Ray) Klespies of Floresville; son, Ed (Jan) LaCour of Spring Branch; sister, Betty (Don) Berger; as well as grandchildren, Mandy Mendietta, Sarah Viertel, Tricia LaCour, Ross Klespies, Corey LaCour, and Laura Klespies; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Daren, Arturo, Aden, Carleigh, Myleigh, Tobin and Ryan; and many loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather at the Galloway Funeral Home, 409 North Tyler, Beeville, TX on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to South Texas Children's Home, Box 1210, Beeville, Texas 78104.
