Ouida Mae Watkins Greer, born on June 23, 1932, in Queen City, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas, on December 20, 2024. A beloved mother, sister, and aunt, Ouida led a life of unwavering faith, love, and dedication to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ouida is survived by her devoted son, Glen Greer, and her loving daughter, Sharlene Greer. She is also remembered by her brother, Jerry Watkins; her niece, Marti Yu; and is survived by several great-nieces and nephews who will forever hold her in their hearts. Preceding her in death are her dad, Clyde Watkins; her mother, Grace Watkins; her sister, Thelma Michna; her husband, George Greer; and her son, Tommy Greer; all of whom she loved deeply.
Ouida graduated in 1949 from Nederland High School in Nederland, Texas. She moved to Cleveland and worked until she met and married George Greer. She dedicated herself to being a loving wife and mother. She was a loyal and devout homemaker to her husband George, and her children Glen, Sharlene and Tommy. We always had hot meals, great lunches and a well-kept home that anyone could be proud of. She was devastated and heartbroken when her youngest son was hit by a car and died. She showed her love and strength to her family by finding her inner strength to continue to care for the rest of her family even during the darkest days of her life. She faithfully and courageously cared for her husband George at the end of his life by keeping him at home while he battled the horrific disease of Parkinson's. She did everything in her power to honor his wish of not having to go to a nursing home and to remain at his home until the end of his life. She was most faithful to her wedding vows..."to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish till death do us part..." She will be forever remembered and loved by her children, friends and family. We are thankful and grateful that we were blessed to have our mom for 92 long years. We realize that not everyone is blessed to have their mom as long as we did. We will take comfort and find strength from all of the wonderful memories of our mom as we continue living out the remainder of our lives.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home Garden of Memories, located at 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, TX, 77055, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2025.
Flowers may be sent to Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX 77055.
In lieu of flowers, donations in mom’s name may be sent to: Tupelo Children’s Mansion, 1801 E. Main St., Tupelo, MS 38804.
Ouida's warmth and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
