Perry Davis, Jr.

Our family has lost a most beloved husband and father. Today, we celebrate his life, not mourn his death.

Perry Ellis Davis, Jr., “Colonel”, as he was known, provided for his family as a self taught auctioneer. He worked cattle sales in Beeville, Cotulla, Uvalde, and Pearsall, TX until his retirement in 1991 following open heart surgery and lengthy recovery. Colonel’s greatest love, next to his family, was racing quarter horses. His dream: to race in the All American Futurity in Ruidoso, NM. Ultimately, he realized that dream in 1982 with his gelding, Neat Creek, placing 3rd in the futurity September of that year.

Dad served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force from 1942-1945, receiving various medals for good conduct and campaign honors.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Naida Davis; daughter, Denise Fenner and F.E. Fenner; son, Jay S. Davis and companion D.J. Long; his brother, Jackie and wife, Virgina Cope.

Other survivors include granddaughters, Brandy Steele and Amanda Davis; and great-grandchildren, Conner Steele and Chloe Steele. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Dad was preceded in death by his father, Perry E. Davis Sr.; mother, Beaulah Mae Morgason; and daughter, Melodye S. Davis.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. All are invited to attend.
