Ramona (Palacios) Chapa, 80, of George West, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Ramona was born June 28, 1943, in Tilden to Tomas and Joaquina (Loza) Palacios. She married Uvaldo Chapa on New Year’s Eve on December 31, 1959, and the couple made their home in George West where they were faithful members of St. George Catholic Church. She dedicated more than 30 years of service as an employee in the maintenance department with Live Oak County.
Ramona had a deep love for the George West Longhorns as well as the Dallas Cowboys and always cheered them on with much enthusiasm. An avid antique collector, she had a keen eye for hidden treasures. Her favorite pastime was gathering with her family and friends and her favorite place to be was at the local Dairy Queen where she shared many smiles, laughter and stories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Joaquina Palacios; her husband, Uvaldo Chapa Sr.; brothers, Santiago Sotello, Lupe Sotello, Ben Sotello, Frank Palacios, Max Palacios, Ralph Palacios and David Palacios; and sisters, Dora Moya and Tommy Pena.
Left behind to cherish fond memories of their mother include two daughters, Narcy (Genaro) Morin and Noelia (James) DeLeon; two sons, Uvaldo (Irma) Chapa Jr. and Jerry (Monica) Morin; as well as six grandchildren, Roxanne Moore, Mario Rocha, Marlena Rocha, Matthew Chapa, Marissa Morin and A.J. Chapa; six great-grandchildren, Evan Rocha, Aubrey Moore, Ryan Morin, Cole Morin, Rory Moore and Coen Morin; and numerous other family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, at St. George Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at St. George Catholic Church with Father Romeo Salinas officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Endercio Chapa Jr., Joel Chapa, J.R. (Manuel) Chapa III, Leonard Palacios, Chris Palacios and Mario Rocha.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cole Morin, Coen Morin, Evan Rocha, Ryan Morin, Matthew Chapa and A.J. Chapa.
