Roberts Lee "Bob" Butts of Beeville, Texas, entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the age of 97. Bob was born in Normanna on January 31, 1916, to Lewellyn Lawson and Nola Roberta Butts. He married Grace Brundrett at the First Baptist parsonage on June 13, 1936 in Beeville. Mr. Butts was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest daughter, Virginia Eichelberger; his brother and his sister-in-law, George and Irmer Butts; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lenola and Jimmy Ferguson and Annie and Woodrow Cunningham; his nephew, Dennis Butts; his mother-in-law, Maud Brundrett; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Chestine and Floyd Harris, Gypse and Wendell Weaver and Robert Dudley. He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Grace Brundrett Butts; daughter, Roberta Geuea (James) of Beeville; son, Bob, Jr. (Lynn) of Denver, CO.; 8 grandchildren, Scott Eichelberger (Janell) of Jacksonville, FL., Kristin Sawyer (Dennis) of Houston, Justin Sanders (Laura) of Joshua, Cynthia Boon (partner Kelly Seis) of Ft. Worth, Linda Shipp (Brad) of Fate, Rhonda Hood (Tony) of San Angelo, Stephen Butts of Berlin, Germany, and Andrew Butts of Denver, CO. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was always interested in listening to his family's battery-powered radio. He developed a lifelong interest in electronics and was the owner/operator of Butts Radio & TV for more than 50 years. He is credited with bringing the first television set to Bee County. For a period of time, he maintained the sound system for home football games of the Beeville Trojans. He also installed the original sound system of the First Baptist Church. He was also an avid Texas Rangers baseball fan. Bob was a lifelong servant of God in many areas. He was a deacon at First Baptist, Beeville, for 66 years and at different times served as Chairman of Deacons, church treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Training Union Director, member of the pastor search committee, representative to the Baptist General Convention of Texas and was on the State Board of Deacons. Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 1, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 2, at First Baptist Church. Private burial was held on Wednesday. Pallbearers include Kirkby Townsend, Richard Zander, Sr., Dwight Head, Vic Barris, Bill Stockton and John Bond. Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Nelson, the Deacons of the First Baptist Church and all the men and women of the First Baptist Church.
