Robert James Doubrava, 78, of Beeville, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011. Mr. Doubrava was born March 2, 1933, in Olmos to Martha Allyne (Krause) and Charles Steven Doubrava. He married Alma Faye Henry in Skidmore on Sept. 19, 1952, and was an oil field driller for 27 years and a self-employed mechanic for 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Baptist Men of South Texas and the church choir. He was a deacon of the church, an Adult Sunday School director and assisted with distribution at the Food Bank. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Martha Doubrava; a son, John William Doubrava; and grandparents, Charles and Anna Doubrava. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Alma Doubrava of Beeville; three sons, Robert James (Margaret) Doubrava Jr. of Beeville, Douglas Dean (Beverly) Doubrava of Kerrville and Charles Dalton (Janice) Doubrava of Victoria; one daughter, Brenda Doubrava Rudeloff of Richmond; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted there Friday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. Homer Hannah officiating. Musical selections will be provided by organist Mary Ellen Thoms and vocalist Bill Stockton. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Robert J. Doubrava III, Matthew M. Zimmer Jr., Rick Webb, Richard Rudeloff III, Dudley Thoms and Vic Barris. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Doubrava Jr. and Douglas Doubrava.
