view image PREV NEXT > Robert Hodges Gayle, 87, of Beeville died Monday, June 6, 2011. Mr. Gayle was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Beeville, to Lillian Pettus (Smith) and W.G. Gayle. He married Helen Meinrath in Beeville on Aug. 5, 1961. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a WWII POW in Germany. He was a history teacher with BISD for many years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Mrs. John Matthews Jr. and Mrs. Vincent Seger; and a brother, W.G. Gayle Jr. Survivors include two sons, Rob (Becky) Gayle of San Antonio and John Gayle of Beeville; five grandchildren, Trey Gayle, Scott Gayle, Natalie Gayle, Jenifer Standlea and Sandra Standlea DelaGarza; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons chapel. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Eddie Garcia officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
