Roy Blevins

Roy Lee "Red" Blevins went to be with the Lord on February 10th, 2012 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Red had a larger than life persona, who loved his Lord, his family and his country. He was past Commander of American Legion Post 274 and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 929. Red is survived by his beloved wife and friend, Mae Blevins, stepson Chris Rivas and his very special grandchildren that he was crazy about, Christopher, Martin and Natalie. He is also survived by sisters Barbara Holland (Lanny) and Loraine Worthen and Carolyn Slimmer and a host of nieces and nephews and sisters and brothers in law who thought the world of him. Visitation was held at Galloway Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, February 12th from 1 to 9pm. The funeral was held on Monday, February 13th @ New Life Christian Church with Brother Jesse Berthold officiating. Interment was at Glenwood Cemetery where he was laid to rest by his beloved brother Virgil. Red was predeceased by his parents Virgil and Ida Bell Blevins and his brothers Virgil and James. Honoring him as pallbearers were his brothers in law John and Joe de la Garza and Michael Murphy and his lifelong friends Bill Newsom, Larry Lee and James Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers were his very special brother in law Lanny Holland and his very good friend Allen Dunn and the Members of the American Legion Post 274, the Boy Scouts Troop 451 and the Beeville Shooting Sports 4H Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Also, a very special thanks to Scott Childress and the entire Exclusive Home Health and Hospice family. We are pretty sure Red is telling the Angels in heaven a joke or two right about now.
