Ruth Edna (Roberts) Lindsay died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011. Mrs .Lindsay was born April 10, 1924, in Tynan to Lee Roy and Daisy Viola (Teague) Roberts. Prior to enrolling in elementary school, she attended school with her older siblings and began reading at an early age. She accepted Christ at an early age and often spent time memorizing and quoting scriptural passages. Her favorite scriptural passage was Psalm 23. She graduated from Lott-Canada High School as class valedictorian. She was active in community and school affairs and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she held numerous positions: deaconess, director of the Baptist Training Union, teacher of first and second grade Sunday School, and teacher and assistant secretary of the Senior Mission Number One. Additional organizations and positions include president of the S1. Rose Cemetery Association, volunteer with the American Red Cross and Pony League, Secretary of the Bee County Historical Commission, Rialto Preservation Committee, Skidmore-Tynan Parent Teacher Association, Skidmore-Tynan Band Boosters, and a 4-H leader for more than 20 years. Recognitions include Bethlehem Baptist Church Mother of the Year Award, Conservation Homemaker of the Year by the Bee County Soil and Water Conservation, Texas State Legislator Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award, and Queen of Mardi Gras. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bass Benson Lindsay; three children, Jackie Ray, Ruth Elaine and John Bass; parents and siblings, Addis Lee Roberts, Birdie Marie Lott, Velma Mae Roberts, and Clarice Dodd. Survivors include four sons, Joe E. (Barbara)Lindsay of San Antonio, Jerome A. (Demetria) Lindsay of Chesapeake, Va., Sam A. (Kathleen) Lindsay III of Dallas and Jeff (Connie) Lindsay of Tulsa, Okla.; four daughters, Dr. Beverly Lindsay of State College, Pa., Gloria (Larry) Goodwin of San Antonio, Faye Lindsay of Southbury, Conn., and Princess Lindsay of Austin; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Homegoing services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Tarver officiating. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joe and Ruth Lindsay Scholarship Fund, Skidmore-Tynan High School, P. O. Box 409, Skidmore, Texas 78389.
