Scott Jones

Scott Charles Jones, born on February 9, 1941, in Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away on June 13, 2012, in Beeville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Roy and Carolyn Marie Jones. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lyn Baker Jones; step-son, David Shields; children, Kara Brown (and son Blake, from Houston), Matthew Jones (wife Jennifer and son Owen, Austin), Russell Jones (wife Sarah and children Conner, Cooper, and Quentin, San Antonio), and Mindy Duran (husband Ruben, San Antonio); and siblings, Roy Jones (wife Ann Marie, Alabama), Judy Noon (Massachusetts), Bob Jones (Massachusetts) and Jean Irving (Massachusetts) and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Scott graduated from Brockton High School in 1959. He has worked since he was 14 years old. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was in the Army from June 22, 1963, until June 15, 1966. While in the Army, he met his first wife, Elizabeth Anne, whose father was in the Army. Scott moved to Austin, Texas, to be with Anne, and they married on June 3, 1967. Scott attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas, from 1966 to 1967, then he transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, where he graduated on August 18, 1970. He applied to the U.S. Secret Service and was accepted. He was an agent with the Secret Service from January 25, 1971, to October 31, 1993. In 1997, he moved to Beeville, Texas, where he accepted a position with the Beeville Independent School District to teach U.S. history and government at A.C. Jones High School. He met Nancy at a new teacher workshop, and they were married on July 11, 1998. Scott lived in Brockton, Massachusetts (1941-1963); Germany (1963-1966); Brenham, Texas (1966-1967); Austin, Texas (1968-1973); Blue Springs, Missouri (1973-1976); Dallas, Texas (1976-1983); San Antonio (1983-1997); and Beeville, Texas (1997-present). Scott was fortunate in his work as a Secret Service agent to travel to many places, including 47 of the 50 U.S. states, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, Argentina, Haiti, Kenya, Zaire, (Congo), Greece, Spain, England, France, Amsterdam, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Martinique, the Virgin Islands and Japan. Scott received many awards and commendations while working in the U.S. Secret Service. In addition, as a teacher at A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas, he was respected and loved by his students and fellow educators. In 2003 and 2012, he received the coveted Bell Awards, given by the senior class to 2 teachers each year. Scott had a life well-lived. He will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his enthusiasm, his love of music, his humor, and his many areas of service to the church. He will also be remembered for his love of his wife, parents, children, step-son, grandchildren and siblings. He loved to read and work crossword puzzles in his free time. Visitation will be held from 3-7p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
