Staton Alley Martin, 92, of George West, Texas, died Monday, August 27, 2018, at Spohn Hospital Shoreline in Corpus Christi.
Mr. Martin was the last of eight children born Aug. 21, 1926, to Eddy Archie Martin and Mae Corry (Alley) Martin in Leesville. At the young age of 16, he joined the United States Coast Guard to serve his country faithfully during World War II. He married Nancy Denney on March 3, 2000, at First Baptist Church in George West and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a gauger in the oil and gas industry.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Joyce Martin; his parents, Eddy and Mae Martin; a son, Staton Anthony Martin; five brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Martin of George West, Texas; daughters, Mary Martin (Jackie) Reid of Lake Jackson, Texas and Penney Martin (Kenneth) Spies of Austin, Texas; stepchildren, Ursula (Robbie) Dupnik of George West, Texas, Jimmy (Kathy) Haskin of Three Rivers, Texas and Eileen (Bill) Gibbons of Victoria, Texas; three grandchildren, Martin Anthony Bomer, Staton Thomas Bomer and Adam J. Martin; nine step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous friends and colleagues.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West.
The funeral service will be conducted at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, with Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Staton Thomas Bomer, Martin Anthony Bomer, Adam Joseph Martin, Jimmy Darrell Haskin, JD Haskin and Robbie Dupnik.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oliver Thiemes, Ray Smith and Kenneth A. Spies.
