Steven Dan Brown ascended to heaven to be with the Good Lord on 06/20/2019. He persevered against his battle against Leukemia for several years, only to succumb to a secondary associated illness.
Steven was born into a well-recognized and dedicated military family. His family served in the U.S. Army and Navy in every war since the U.S. Civil War (service ending just prior to the Vietnam War). His family history included a Brigadier General graduating from West Point who served during the U.S. Civil War, and included Colonels, Captains, and many more throughout history.
Steve graduated from Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, and attended both Texas A&I and Southwest Texas in San Marcos, before settling in Beeville, Texas.
He felt himself extremely lucky to meet and marry Anne Riley, a local lady he met at a dance in Beeville. Very smitten, he married his lifetime love in a union lasting 37 years, and went on to have two children, Andrew and Katherine.
Steve established a successful and long-term welding business in Beeville, Brown’s Welding Shop, well known in South Texas, and currently operated by Steve’s son, Andrew.
Steve will be greatly missed to the many friends and associates he had during his lifetime. We know he cherished and was truly grateful for these friendships. If he could, he would thank each one personally for the privilege of sharing and helping to realize a wonderful life. He was especially grateful for the outpouring of friends and community support during the unexpected loss of his daughter, Katherine.
To those who knew Steve, he will be remembered for upholding a strong work ethic, trusted friendships, generosity of spirit to others, and holding his values dear.
Steven is survived by his wife, Anne Riley Brown; his son, Andrew Brown; his grandson, Liam Brown; and his sister, Kimberly Brown. A special mention to Thornton Cosby Huddle, a family mentor and benefactor throughout Steve’s life. Also mentioned is his stepsister, Shawn Orton.
Steven was predeceased by his daughter, Katherine Brown; his parents, Jacqueline and Edmond Brown of San Antonio; and grandparents, Dorothy Harker Brown and Edmond Brown Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Beeville with Pastor Carl Pickett officiating.
