Thomas Downes

Thomas Garvin Downes, 69, of Copperas Cove, died at home Monday, April 28, 2014.

Mr. Downes was born in Cotulla on May 30, 1944, was raised in Beeville, and lived in many locations before settling in Copperas Cove. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School and received his BA from Texas A&M (A&I) University at Kingsville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1969, serving a tour in Vietnam. His interests were Texas history, baseball and Dallas Cowboys football. He married Camilla Norvell of Harlingen on July 10, 1970.

Survivors include four children, Nancie (Jason Garcia) Mathis of Austin, Brenda K. (Thomas) Prouty and Ty Downes, both of Copperas Cove, and Keith Downes of Beeville; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Minnie Downes; and Buck and Bessie Harris who raised him.

Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove from 6 to 8 p.m. today(Wednesday) with a private viewing at 10 a.m. Thursday.

A visitation will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. with a chapel service to begin at 2 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
