Thurman Gibson

Thurman Floyd Gibson, 91, passed away at his home in Beeville on September 9, 2011. He was born on September 12, 1919, in Fairmont, South Carolina to Roy Gibson and Harriet Ayres Gibson. Mr. Gibson joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1939. He served in three wars, including World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. After the war, he went to college and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, and graduated in 1976. He married Coral L. Ables in 1973, in Roswell, New Mexico. Mr. Gibson was a 5th grade teacher at R. A. Hall School; he retired from teaching in 1986. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Harriet Gibson; and two sisters, Annie McCarter and Fannie Pitman. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Coral Lee Gibson of Beeville; 4 children, Paulina Seals (Ken) of Beeville, Deniece Allred (Jerry) of Cedar City, Utah, Thurman F. Gibson Jr. (Tammy) of Rockport and Jessie McDougald (James) of Beeville, Texas; 9 grandchildren, John Jackson Jr., Brandi Alvarez, Phillip Featherling, Patrick Featherling, Kyle Allred, Ashlee Allred, Garren Allred, Colin Gibson and Austin Gibson; 9 great-grandchildren, Sadie Love Gibson, Jonathan Alvarez, Jr., Jasmine Jackson, John R Jackson III, Scarlet Rose Featherling, Dresden Allred, Sophia Allred, Gabriella Allred and Aryana Allred. Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home from 6pm-8pm. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 10am. Interment followed in Glenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW and Coastal Bend Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, 1546 S. Brownlee St., Corpus Christ, Tx 78404.
