Timothy John Smith, 80, formerly of George West, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home in Victoria, Texas surrounded by his beloved wife and children.
Timothy was born May 11, 1944, in George West, to William Edward Smith and Annie Adella (Lamprecht) Smith. After high school graduation, he achieved a notable academic milestone, earning both a bachelor and a master’s degree in science from Texas A&I University-Kingsville. This paved the way for his career in teaching. He also received an award for Outstanding Young Men of America in 1980. Later, he dedicated numerous years as a shipping coordinator with the DuPont plant in Victoria, which showcased his versatility and strong work ethic.
Timothy married his sweetheart, Ruth Elaine Schroeter, in Victoria on February 28, 1987. The couple had recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather which brought him immense joy. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting and he cherished his time taking trips to the beach with his family and taking his boat out to the bays or the lake. He was passionate about his No. 1 favorite football team - the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Smith; a sister, Sandra Klare; and his stepson, Corey Masters.
Left behind to cherish fond memories include his wife, Ruth E. Smith; his daughter, Deborah Humphreys; and a son, Douglas Smith. He was also a loving grandfather to Austin, Brandon, Jake, Jacob, Lauren, Logan and Marilyn; and great-grandchildren, Hayes, Waylon, Asher and Elsie Mae.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, with the Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 o’clock that morning with Father Romeo Salinas officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Austin Howell-Wylie, Brandon Wylie, Jake Humphreys, Jody Robinson, Ray Smith and Jacob Smith.
