Virgil Thomas Brown Jr.

Virgil Thomas Brown, Jr., 83, a longtime resident of George West, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home in Skidmore on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Bubba, as he was fondly known, was born in Corpus Christi on Christmas Day in 1940 to Virgil Thomas Brown Sr. and Mary Lillian Korczynski. He lived a life rich in experiences and marked his dedication to his family and career. He was a die-hard cowboy, a faithful man and a longtime member of White Creek Baptist Church.

Virgil was a noble veteran of the U.S. Army, where he earned his GED, reflecting his commitment to personal growth and education. Although he did not finish high school, he was recognized as worldly in education, demonstrating that life's lessons are not confined to formal schooling. His professional journey led him to a fulfilling career as a sprinkler fitter, a role that allowed him to provide for his loved ones with pride and dedication.

An avid cowboy at heart, Virgil's passions extended beyond work. He also found joy in fishing and was known for his culinary skills, particularly in chuckwagon Dutch cooking and preparing cowboy coffee. These interests reflected his love for the outdoors and the cherished traditions of cowboy culture.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Virgil Brown Sr.; his three wives, Shirley, Linda and Marylyn; a son, Edward Thomas Brown; and a daughter, Tanya Brown.

Survivors include a son, John Brown; and several stepchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 17, at White Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn Killam officiating.
