Ward Hammond, Jr.

Ward Leighton Hammond Jr., 79, of Beeville, died Sunday, May 29, 2011. Mr. Hammond was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Baton Rouge, La., to Alice Myrtle (Farr) and Ward Leighton Hammond Sr. He married Mildred Marie Grimes in Bowling Green, Ky., on July 7, 1954, and was a retired Air Force tech sergeant of 21 years, worked civil service in logistics at Kielly Air Force Base and was also employed as the supervisor for the Beeville wastewater plant. He was a member of Adams St. Church of Christ and was an avid model builder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward Leighton and Alice Myrtle Hammond. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Hammond of Beeville; four sons, Ward L. (Karen) Hammond III of Columbus, Kan., Barry L. (Beulah) Hammond of Lutz, Fla., Jeffery L. (Melinda) Hammond of Beeville and Byron D. Hammond of Houston; a daughter, Lisa A. Tindol of Beeville; eight grandchildren, Jared Hammond, Whitney Hammond, Jordan Tindol, Colton Tindol, Jacob Hammond, Bonnie Hammond, Anna Hammond and Reagan Hammond; and a sister, Jane Hammond McKinley of Russell Springs, Ky. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Adams St. Church of Christ with Joshua Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on June 10, at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jared Hammond, Jacob Hammond, Jordan Tindol and Colton Tindol.
