William Mckennon, Jr.

William "Bill" Marvin McKennon, Jr., 93, of Beeville, passed away April 28, 2018.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 69 years, Margaret; his daughter, Dolores Kay Milner; his parents, William Marvin and Millie Bone McKennon; his brothers, Andrew Frank, Rayford, Cecil, Richard and JT; sisters, Irene Almon, Earlene Packer and Dorothy Burgess, nieces, Gwendolyn Ann Mitchell and Penny McKennon Tate; and nephew, Glenn Burgess, Jr. (Rusty).

Bill was born in Midlothian, Texas. He served in the Air Force in England during World War II. Immediately after, he attended pharmacy school at the University of Texas in Austin where he met and married Margaret Marie Cahill. Bill worked in pharmacies in Beaumont, El Campo and Victoria before purchasing historic City Drug in Beeville in 1961. In 1967, he enlarged McKennon City Drug in which had gifts and a full soda fountain. With the fountain, the pharmacy became a social meeting place for downtown merchants and locals.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul Eagan of Briarcliff, daughter, Donna McKennon of Wimberley; former son-in-law, David Milner and his wife, Susan of San Antonio; grandchildren, Andrea Milner of Fort Worth, Aaron Milner and his wife, Melissa of Anchorage Alaska, Bailey and Mitch Blankenship of Austin; great-grandchildren, Alexis Avirett of Fort Worth, Ryan and Avery Milner of Anchorage Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill and Margaret purchased a small ranch in Beeville where the family enjoyed years of activities including horseback riding, picnicking, hunting and fishing and raising Charolais cattle.

The family wishes to thank the many wonderful caretakers and friends that were part of Bill's last years.

Visitation will be held at Galloway Funeral Home in Beeville from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Galloway Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
