William Meider Jr.

William Charles "Bill" Meider, Jr. passed away March 22, 2014, in Houston, Texas, after a courageous fight with cancer. He was 77.

He was born in Robstown, Texas, on August 6, 1936, to Mary A. (Thomas) and W.C. Meider, Sr. Bill married Beverly Jennings in George West on August 2, 1955. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in George West and a longtime contributor and supporter of the Live Oak County Fair.

Bill was a surveyor and land developer who resided in Live Oak County all his life. He helped design and complete the gateway to the George West Cemetery. Bill acquired the nickname, “Meiderstein” when he was solving problems with fellow workers. Having the opinion that, “If it’s not black, it’s primer.”, his family always drove black automobiles. Lovingly referred to as “Grapa”, Bill was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was a reserved man and taught by example. “Luv um Heap” was an endearing expression he used for saying “I love you” to all of the special ladies in his life. Spoiling his wife, daughter and granddaughters was one of his most favorite past times. Bill also took special care of his Longhorn steers, herd of buffalo, Brahman cattle and even his concrete gate guard and landmark, “George” the gorilla.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly Meider of George West and Beeville area; daughter, Robin Wallek and her husband, Lee of George West; three granddaughters, Kali, Kelsi and Kayla Wallek all of George West; and sister, Mary Beth Duerler of Helotes.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5 – 7 pm at Galloway & Sons Chapel, George West. Funeral service will be Friday, March 28, 2014, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in George West with Rev. Patricia Newcomer officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronald Wallek, L. T. Davis, Johnny Guerra, Larry Holm, Obidio Chapa and Dwayne McWilliams. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Wallek, Ross Harris, Bob Schneider and Louis Younts. Interment to follow at George West Cemetery.
