Winnie Moss Riser was born January 2, 1922 near the White Creek Community in Live Oak County to Winnie Anna Martin and Jackson Carroll Moss. She spent her early days on the family farm there before moving to Mission, Texas during the Depression, graduating from Mission High in 1939. She was employed as a telephone switchboard operator before marrying E. Leroy Riser on April 23, 1943 at Foster Field in Victoria Texas. After WWII, they moved to the Riser family ranch in 1947. She raised her family of four there until 1979, when they retired to Kingsland, Texas. She moved to Boerne, Texas in 2008, where she remained until her death April 27, 2016. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, serving in many roles. Winnie lived her faith daily. She was instrumental in founding the Live Oak County Library and was an active member of the Buchanan Arts and Crafts Guild in Kingsland. She loved taking walks with her many grandchildren and spending time outside gardening and enjoying God's creations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, E. Leroy Riser, and sons Eugene (Gene) Leroy Riser II, and Scott Robert Riser. Winnie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kathleen (Kathi) Riser Piper, of Denton; son, Mark Gillett Riser (Rhonda) of Boerne; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Riser (Gene) of George West; grandchildren, Rafe Piper, Erin Piper Urness (Mike), Robert Riser (Becky), Emily Riser, Natalie Riser, Landon Riser, Anna Riser, Michael Riser, Morgan Riser and Jane Riser; and great grandchildren, Ayden Piper, Taylor Riser and Cole Riser. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Phern Moss Schultz of San Antonio; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Galloway & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow George West Cemetery.
