Yvonne E. Martisek Dodd entered her eternal home on Sunday, September 15, 2013. She was receiving treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and staying at her brother Glenn's house in Friendswood, Texas when she received notice from God that she was needed in Heaven. She is survived by her husband Fred Dodd of Beeville, son Fred Dodd, Jr. and wife Courtney of Bryan, Texas; grandson Carson Dodd, and granddaughter Lainey Dodd. She is also survived by brothers Glenn D. Martisek and wife Gerri of Friendswood; Rudy Martisek and wife Natalie of Beeville; John H. Martisek and wife Julie of Hallettsville, Texas; sisters Mary Zander and husband Richard of Beeville; Kathleen Besancon and husband Gary of Beeville, Niki Smythe and husband Danny of Plainwood, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. Yvonne was born on October 3, 1948 in Hallettsville and attended school there through the third grade. Her father accepted a job in Beeville at that time and the family moved there where she graduated high school and then married the love of her life, Fred Dodd, on July 6, 1968. The Dodds lived in Beeville until they moved to Little Falls, New Jersey to be near Fred's family. Yvonne quickly fell in love with New Jersey and worked at a local pharmacy until their return to Beeville several years later, when they were blessed with the birth of their son. Yvonne lived the remainder of her life in Beeville until her relocation to Heaven on September 15, 2013. Yvonne was born into humble beginnings with not much money, food to eat, or social status, but an abundance of family love. These early family struggles caused all her brother and sisters to bond together in an accord that has lasted for a lifetime. She lived a life of service to her mother, siblings, church, and her job at Beeville Independent School District. She was totally devoted to her beloved husband, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Rarely did you find an occasion where she did not have a new picture of her grandchildren, Carson and Lainey, to share with all. They occupied a special place in her heart which cannot be replaced. Her job at BISD was a special time in her life. She always proclaimed that her co-workers were the best people in Beeville and she was proud to work for such a fine organization. Two of her best friends were her sisters, Mary and Kathy. They attended many functions together, sharing everything including shopping trips, doctor appointments and grandchildren's events. Never did a day go by that they did not talk or argue. It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall to hear their conversations and observations on life. Of course, her baby brother John was her favorite. During her illness, Yvonne drew strength from her faith in God. Her life is a testimony to her love for Him and she always gave Him credit for the many blessings in her life. She is surely reunited with her loved ones in Heaven and eagerly awaiting the arrival of all those left behind in their earthly homes... "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2 Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
